SHILLONG: Shillong is set to fully open as of Monday, with the East Khasi Hills Deputy Commissioner issuing an order on Sunday allowing all departments, stores and commercial establishments to open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. throughout. district.
However, the stores in Iewduh, the state’s largest traditional market, will continue to open on an odd-even basis. The new order will not apply to areas, buildings, homes and complexes that have been declared micro-containment areas by the East Khasi Hills District Magistrate.
In a separate directive for Khyndai Lad stores, the DC ordered that stores with assigned serial numbers – 1, 3, and 5 will open on September 14, 16, 18, 22, 24, and 26 while stores with assigned serial numbers 2, 4 and 6 will open on September 15, 17, 19, 21, 23 and 25 – at MUDA (Police Bazaar) complex, Glory’s Plaza, JM Towers, Dedar Market, Dmar Complex, DGC Cross Road building , Hira market, Gulesta Fancy market, Jivan Ram Complex (Bhutia market), Rapsang market complex (Mawlonghat), municipal parking (Mawlonghat), Anjalee parking (29-Cantonment) and Khasi market below Jaiaw taxi station in Motphran.
All shopping malls and resorts must strictly follow the SOPs issued by the Department of Health and Family Welfare on preventive measures to contain the spread of COVID-19.
The owner of the malls, complexes and the respective merchants must strictly adhere to government SOPs and instructions from the deputy commissioner’s office, failing which the store or shopping complex concerned will be closed followed by legal action, said order. Restaurants, cafes and food stores have been allowed to open daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. in strict compliance with SOPs.
