Hastings City Business Association is now officially a business improvement district.

A vote asking members of the Hastings City Business Association if they supported the association’s transformation into a BID closed on March 21.

The result was revealed after giving the votes released on closing day a week to arrive.

Just over 30% of the association’s members voted, President Craig Riddiford said, with 94% of those voting in favor of the proposal.

“We are very happy with the turnout and the result,” said Riddiford.

“It’s never easy to grab the attention of busy people and make them take the time to research, think and vote on issues like these. We are very happy that almost 200 of our members took this time.

“In addition to deciding to become an IDB, which has proven processes in New Zealand and abroad, this vote gives the association and its team a mandate to continue the good work being done. in the past More than 20 years. “

The next step is to consult with members on finalizing the action plan for the next fiscal year, starting July 1, the draft of which was unveiled at an association meeting in February.

“We will be doing this primarily via email and we really hope members take the time to take a look and give us their feedback. Together we can make a difference for our city – make it a great place. , for working, shopping and doing business. “
