MJ Unpacked partners with the Minority Cannabis Business Association and our Academy

LAS VEGAS, October 5, 2021 / PRNewswire / – MJ unpacked, the first CPG cannabis trade event designed to both boost trade and integrate access to capital, today announced its partnership with Our Academy, a business accelerator owned by social equity and BIPOC and the Minority Cannabis Business Association (MCBA). MCBA will be hosting its State Policy Summit onsite during MJ Unpacked.

“There is overwhelming verbal support in our industry to create restorative justice in cannabis and help support BIPOC owned businesses, but the reality is that when you ask what is one of the biggest challenges, the answer is always the same: access to capital, “mentioned George jage, co-founder of Jage Media. “This event can significantly level the playing field to create open access to money invested in licensed operators.”

MJ Unpacked, is the first event of its kind aimed exclusively at executives of CPG cannabis brands and retailers and accredited investors actively investing in cannabis. MJ Unpacked Raw October 21 – 22 in Las Vegas 9 a.m. – 5 p.m., at the South Seas Convention Center at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino. The one-of-a-kind event puts passionate cannabis retailers and THC CPG brands and investors at the center of it all, with unparalleled and much-needed opportunities to connect and collaborate.

“According to the Porter Novelli Purpose 2018 study, less than 4% of cannabis companies are run by BIPOC founders, although BIPOC consumers account for 80% of cannabis sales,” said Hilary L. Yu, co-founder of Notre Académie. “This is in part due to not having access to traditional financing like a tour of friends and family and for many social equity contenders who have found investors, the transaction structures have proven to be predatory. We are extremely grateful that MJ Unpacked gives our mentees a platform to share their stories and the incredible opportunities they offer investors. ”

While cannabis is one of the greatest generational wealth opportunities of our time, capital has not flocked to the various founders or communities most affected by the war on drugs.

MCBA will organize its State Policy Summit on site, before the show, 20 october, 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at MJ Unpacked. This invitation-only event will bring together social equity actors and some of cannabis’s top political minds to draft an updated version of the MCBA’s Model State Policy Bill. Previous political summits hosted by the MCBA have resulted in proposals for legislative language and policy that have found their way into federal bills and have been implemented at state and local levels.

“We are thrilled with the opportunity to bring together equity actors and political minds from across the country at MJ Unpacked to develop the gold standard of state-level cannabis law that centers the principles. for economic and social justice and redress the harm that continues to be done to black people and brown communities by banning marijuana, ”said Kaliko Castile, president of MCBA.

MCBA is a mission-driven organization that creates equal access for cannabis businesses and promotes the economic empowerment of communities of color by creating policy considerations, social programs and outreach initiatives to achieve equity for communities. most affected by the war on drugs.

Our academy provides ground support to aspiring BIPOC entrepreneurs to turn their dream into a workable business plan, pitch deck and go-to-market strategy.

“We created Our Academy as a non-profit pre-accelerator to help BIPOC cannabis entrepreneurs achieve their dreams and the results are breathtaking. In less than a year, our mentees have been licensed, launched brands, some in multiple states through supply chain agreements with our Academy’s partners, but the compliant cannabis industry is an expensive space and none of this speed of growth matters if we don’t not a pipeline of investors to support these companies, ”Yu said.
